Aqua Fun Academy

What do I need to bring to swimming lessons?

You should bring a bathing suit, towel, goggles are recommended and a re-usable swim diaper is REQUIRED if your child is under the age of 3 (see below for details). Swim caps are also highly recommended especially for students with long hair. Let us know if you forget something – we probably have a spare that you can borrow!

What curriculums do you offer?

The Swimmer program (Preschool 1-5, Swimmer 1-6, and Canadian Swim Patrol) is the Lifesaving Society Curriculum. The Swim Kids Program (Sea Turtle–Whale and Swim Kids 1-10) is the Red Cross curriculum. Both are strong curriculums with many benefits, however the content is ultimately similar. Because new parents come to AFA from different respective programs, the two programs are listed together as a reference point for parents. Aqua Fun Academy’s curriculum is Red Cross for Learn to Swim and Lifesaving Society for Leadership.

I want my child to enjoy the small class-learning environment. How big are your classes?

Swim Kids 3 – Swim Kids 10: 1:4

Leadership and First Aid: 1:4

Adult: 1:3

Swimmers will receive the personal attention needed to attain their maximum ability.

I enjoyed the connection my child had with his/her previous instructor. Can I choose an Instructor?

Parents are welcome to make a request however there are no guarantees. Instructor availability is based on a number of factors.

So I hear Aqua Fun Academy offers courses in French?

Aqua Fun Academy is one of the few Toronto schools to offer swim courses in French. This must be requested well ahead of time, as there are a limited number of bilingual instructors available. Access to bilingual instructors is on a first come first serve basis.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. We offer both private and semi-private lessons which are separately priced but can be arranged upon request.

How long are classes?

Sea Turtle –Swim Kids 2: 30 minutes

Swim Kids 3–Swim Kids 10: 45 minutes

Leadership and First Aid: 1 hour – 1.5 hours depending on class requirements

Adult: 45 minutes

Are there any age requirements?

The preschool levels are for children ages 3-5. Once a swimmer reaches age 5 he/she is automatically bumped up to the Swim Kids program regardless of progress attained in the preschool program.

Which changeroom should my child use?

Only a limited number of pools have universal or family change rooms. At facilities without universal or family change rooms, children of different gender than their parent or guardian may enter the same change room as their parent or guardian if they are six years of age or younger. Children seven years of age or older are required to use the change room designated for their gender. If these accommodations do not work for you, please speak to facility staff to make alternate arrangements.

Can I sit on the pool deck and watch my child?

We encourage you to sit on the benches or chairs provided on the pool deck. If you have a question or a comment please feel free to speak to your Deck Supervisor. For everyone’s health and safety there are no outdoor shoes on the pool deck. You are welcome to bring flip flops! We ask that you please leave your stroller in the change room.

As the deck reflects the warm pool temperature, if you need to step off the deck to cool off you are welcome to enjoy a cold beverage or hot cup of coffee at our complimentary café.

We’re going to be away for a week / my child is sick / we have other plans on that day. Can we arrange a make-up lesson?

We’ll be happy to give two makeup classes per session. In order to receive a makeup lesson, we require 24-hour notification. Special arrangements can be made for special occasions – health reasons, travel purposes.  Make-up lessons may be used only during the current session.  There will be no make-ups for the last class in each session.  There will be no make-ups on make-ups.

Pool Foulings

Want to avoid the hassle completely? Here are four simple steps to preventing pool foulings:

  • Do not feed children for at least one hour before their swimming lesson.
  • Take your child to the washroom before their swimming lesson.
  • Children who are not toilet-trained must wear swim diapers.
  • If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home.

Integration Services

Aqua Fun Academy encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in our programs at a level of participation suitable to ability, support needs, program choice and facility access.

A participant requires extra support if:

  • Extra support is required at school;
  • A disability exists that could affect the safety of the participant or other participants;
  • Extra support is required at home to basic care; and
  • The participant is currently associated with a support agency and/or program.

We offer the following options:

  1. You may provide the one-on-one support yourself in the form of a family member, friend or trained support/social worker.
  2. A limited number of support staff are available to provide 1:1 support in various programs. These support staff are available at a cost of approximately $20.00 per hour in addition to the course registration fee.

Please understand that Aqua Fun Academy will do its best to find support for you if required; however, it is not guaranteed that support staff for the time and day of the program you request will be secured.

If you or the person you are registering has a disability, a medical condition or a life-threateneing allergy, please include that information on your Registration Form.
